This is the letter we have sent out to all of our Veterinarian partners and customers as well as our prospective clients of a Bordetella Vaccination Change. We want to make sure that the dogs in our care are protected against illness as much as possible. As with all vaccines, should you have any questions, please contact your Veterinarian. Be aware that the Bordatella Vaccination is only 80-90% effective and sometimes dogs with the vaccination still get sick. To all of our pet partners and customers:
Thank you to all who have come to see us for any of our services, Boarding, Grooming, Daycare or Training. We have and continue to grow. At this point in our growth and given the fact that the dogs that are in our facilities have a great time when in our care, we have decided to make a Bordetella Vaccination Change.
Effective immediately, all dogs entering our facilities will be required to have been vaccinated within the last 6 months for Bordetella. In speaking with several veterinarian partners we feel that it is in the best interest of the dog and owner to vaccinate against colds and upper respiratory illnesses more frequently IF the dogs and owners plan to socialize and board with other dogs. We know that there are Bordetella vaccines that are administered in 12 month or 6 month vaccines, it does not matter to us which vaccine is used, so long as your dog had the vaccine within the last 6 months upon entering Happy Hound Dog Resorts.
The vaccine is low in cost, our research shows between $10-$30 versus the cost of having to seek treatment of $200-$300. We are exploring options to have our veterinarian partners administer the vaccines at our facility one day a month. We recommend that you follow the guidelines of your vet for all vaccines, but we must insist on Bordetella every 6 months to enter Happy Hound Dog Resorts.
Everyone wants a better, safer, happier environment for the dogs in our care. We believe that this is step in the right direction for the proper care of dogs. Please discuss with your veterinarian if you have any questions about the Bordetella vaccine.
